What you see at Bibliotheca Thysiana

The Dutch Classicist corner building retains its historic interior, around 2,500 books, thousands of pamphlets and a rare book wheel. Even when the interior is closed, the Rapenburg and Groenhazengracht façades merit a detour.

The history of Bibliotheca Thysiana

Johannes Thysius stipulated in his will that his collection should publicly serve learning. His bequest funded the dedicated library building designed by city architect Arent van 's-Gravesande and completed in 1655.
